WORK PLACEMENTS

Are you looking for information about supervising a work placement and assigning pertinent tasks or projects to an intern from Université de Hearst?

You’ve come to the right place!

Université de Hearst offers two levels of work placements. The first level (INTE 1946) is a three-week exploratory placement that allows interns to measure their abilities in the
workplace, learn how organizations operate and understand the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in the working world.

In the second level, which lasts three or six weeks and is offered in all of Université de Hearst's programs, students are encouraged to broaden their knowledge of the workplace and apply the concepts they learned in the classroom. Interns can participate in specific activities at their host organization with the aim of improving their evaluation, conceptualization, analytical and thinking skills related to their field of study.

Work placement blocks

Work placements are offered in blocks of three or six weeks throughout the academic year.

Work placement process

To complete a work placement at Université de Hearst, we propose a staggered approach
over 13 weeks (course codes 1946 and 3946) or 15 weeks (course code 4915). Here are the details of the process (document in French only), which includes the participation of all members of the internship team: interns, host organizations, academic managers and the UdeH experiential learning team.

Recent studies show that work placement programs provide considerable benefits not only for students, but also for educational institutions and employers who provide work experience and coaching before the students graduate. Through work placements, students can apply the theories they learn in the classroom to concrete situations they encounter at work or in the community, explore possible career choices, develop job skills, acquire experience, increase self-confidence about their own resources and autonomy, discover opportunities for personal growth and get involved in the community. Employers who take interns view the work term as a way of offering their services more efficiently and as a hiring tool for future employees. For postsecondary institutions, these programs help create and maintain closer ties with their community.
